THE HARRACHOV EXCHANGE
THE HARRACHOV EXCHANGE

An ingenious, sublime film installation bringing together a short film, film loops and a kinetic sculpture.

The ten minute long 35mm film HARRACHOV explores the effect of an arcane force that,
like a black hole or immensely powerful electromagnet, exerts a far-reaching &irresistible power
upon certain objects and materials, willfully seducing, centralizing and internalizing them.

Piece by piece, in the dark void of the cinema screen, an imaginary and menacing machine-system evolves.

The objects that join to form the bizarre collection are identifiable through their unique articulation & sound.

Finally assembled together on screen, a powerful, dissonant and eerie chorus
emerges, a kind of ‘musique concrete’, orchestrated by the object ensemble & ‘cast’ of the film.

***
Extraordinarily, the beast that the film begets exists for real, beyond the confines of
the screen as a fully-functional kinetic sculpture THE HARRACHOV EXCHANGE,
designed & built by Guy Bishop, seen here at the FLATPACK FESTIVAL (Birmingham, UK).
